Reader Response: What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?

In the last newsletter, we asked you to tell us about your New Year’s Resolution— what it is, why you chose it, and how you plan to achieve it. Here are some of our favorite responses:

Thanks for the opportunity of this contest!  My new years resolution is twofold: to lose weight and get back in shape as well as to take more time for myself. My girlfriend is getting married for the first time at the age of 46 and has asked me to stand up for her.  I have usually been relatively in shape; however I’m a cancer survivor who had been on a steriod so am now out of shape and a little overweight.  So my health is good now but the doctors have agreed that I can stand to lose some weight as well as get into shape.  So Aquafit and Zumba lessons with the wedding party start January 7th!  Also as a new grandmother, at 45, I need to ensure I am around for years to come.  I also am going to ensure that I take some time for myself, which Zumba and Aquafit do allow me but I also want to ensure I have time for my other favoritte pasttime – reading!

My New Years Resolution comes down to three words: Simple, Elegant and Frugal. I shall use this catch phrase as a touchstone for my decisions this year, as I am getting married in October.  There are so many distractions, that it will be difficult to achieve goals without touchstones. So I will keep my life simple (not book up all my weekends and weeknights like last year).  Keep things elegant – I love beauty, but how can I see or appreciate the beautiful items I own if I can’t see it for the clutter.  And frugal, we have a budget this year, and it will be a tough one. Thanks for the contest!
